ABOUT MYOPIA SCHOOLING FIELD
The Myopia Schooling Field is an 85+ acre parcel of land, located in Hamilton, MA, preserved for equestrian recreational use at riders'
own risk
(please see RELEASE). It is private property governed by the Myopia Schooling
Field Trust and maintained by the Myopia Hunt.
The Myopia Schooling Field is private property that was purchased in 1931 by five Myopia Hunt Club members and placed into a trust to
preserve the land for “riding of horses and any activities directly or indirectly related thereto”. The field is the home of the Myopia
Horse Show, one of the oldest in the country and rich with history - visited by President Taft in 1909 and one in which General Patton
participated in many times. In 1941 the Trustees gave 19 acres to the town of Hamilton in order to establish Patton Park for non-horse
activities for the people of the Hamilton to enjoy. In 1959 the Joseph F. Poor Polo Arena was constructed using boards from an old bowling
alley in Beverly and railroad ties from the Boston - Maine Railway line.
The maintenance of the field is managed by the Trustees and relies on private donations. To help with the maintenance of this treasure,
please feel free to send a check made out to:
Myopia Schooling Field Trust 435 Bay Road Hamilton, MA 01982
On Wednesday and Saturday mornings, June - August, the Myopia Hounds can be seen exercising around the fields. The annual Myopia Horse
Show runs Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of Labor Day weekend. Please check the schedule for any other special
events.
The hope of the Trustees is to keep the property open for all to enjoy, so please respect the rules of the Myopia Schooling Field:
- Dogs are required to be leashed at all times for the safety of horses and riders - the Myopia hounds being the only exception to this
rule
- Bikers and runners are required to yield to horses and riders, for the safety of all
- No camping or littering
- Please stay off the fields when they are wet - tracks made early in the season usually last the season. There is a road going through
the middle that will connect you from 1A to the railroad tracks in order not to damage wet grounds
- No flat work at any time on the Myopia Horse Show field (area with stone walls near Patton Park) or the polo field. You may exercise
around the edges, but not on the actual fields.
NOTE: the polo fields will be open for all use beginning October 1st.
